Do You Start Your Day With Intention?

“A good intention clothes itself with power.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

My best days start with presence and intention.

What is Intention?

The are many definitions of intention including –

  • “An intention is idea that you plan (or intend) to carry out. If you mean something, it’s an intention. Your goal, purpose, or aim is your intention. It’s something you mean to do, whether you pull it off or not.” ~ Vocabulary.com
  • “the thing that you plan to do or achieve: an aim or purpose” ~ Merriam-Webster.com
  • “a thing intended: an aim or plan” ~ Google
  • “an act or instance of determining mentally upon some action or result” ~ Dictionary.com
  • “a thing intended; an aim or plan” ~ Oxford Dictionaries

What are some ways I start my day with Intention?

  • I check-in with how I feel and what is going on with my body. From there I make a decision on what I need to do next. This could be what I need to drink, eat or exercise my body.
  • I journal, reflect and write down anything that is on my mind. For me this is a great way to release and let-go of anything that is bothering me. During this time, I often get little nudges about what I need to do in the day or people I need to connect with  (obviously my diary and systems I have in place also help).
  • I practice gratitude. Yes really! I have a variety of ways I practice gratitude – from being grateful I am here to experience another day to my gratitude jar to writing down 3 things I am grateful for in my journal to sending cards. There truly are many ways to express gratitude!

These habits or rituals, help me prepare for the day ahead and focus on what steps to take to continue to move me towards my dreams.

What happens when I resist taking the time to connect in with my intentions for the day?

Those days are different. For example, the start of the day could be uncertain and lack clarity. I could also miss important appointments or show up and be who I am.
