Right Here and Now is Where Your Power Lies

We live in a world that is connected. We are connected to –

  • our selves (i.e. emotions, thoughts, memories, experiences etc.),
  • our friends and family,
  • the community (i.e. services, community organisations and schools),
  • technology, as well as
  • the environment (i.e. where we live and the greater world).

Every time we make a decision, choice or take action, we have an impact on each of these aspects. Some of us are aware and aligned with our choices and some of us are mis-aligned and can feel a sense of disconnection.

Another way of looking at this is –

Stimulus Response and Reaction

Between stimulus and response, we have the freedom to choose –

Freedom to Choose

Sometimes (because of past experiences in our lives), we may not realise we have a choice. This is why it is important to develop self-awareness and presence. As we develop awareness, little by little, we start to come off auto-pilot, realise we do have choices and start to create a new way of being.

The Mind

The mind is made up of the conscious mind, the subconscious mind and consciousness itself. The 3 levels are –

  1. The Conscious Mind – the behaviours, actions and decisions we see,
  2. The Subconscious Mind – made up of your beliefs, memories, experiences, identity and environment, and
  3. Consciousness – your connection to source/heart or I AM/BEing.

As you can see by following diagram, the mind is like an iceberg. The behaviours you see on top of the surface (i.e. the conscious mind) are driven by the engine centre underneath the surface (i.e. the subconscious mind). Sometimes you don’t know realise there are blocks or resistance buried in your subconscious, until you start inquiring or a situation happens in your life. You then are given the opportunity to come back in to alignment through consciousness or BEing.

Levels of Alignment

Interrupting the Autopilot…

Throughout our lives, every reaction has been registering in our subconscious mind. During these interactions, we were constantly make judgements (although quite often we don’t realise we are making these judgements).

Over time, these judgements can lead to us make specific associations with particular actions. We can then go on believing these associations for many years, if we don’t take the time to stop and question them to see if they are true.

For example – for many years, I believed that when I ate chocolate, I felt pleasure (or comfort). However, when I sat down to inquire and see if this association was true for me, I found out it wasn’t.

What I found was, when I ate chocolate, I was felt sick many times, I just wasn’t aware of it as I had that strong association to chocolate growing up (that it comforts me during times of stress).

Developing awareness around chocolate and how it made really made me feel was enough for me to stop eating the large amounts of the chocolate I was eating. Now, don’t get me wrong, I still eat chocolate, however I am aware of the ones that have a negative affect on me and the ones that don’t.

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift. - Bob Samples
