The Making of the 90-Day Commitment: Courage from the Inside Out

I have had a few challenging experiences the past few weeks. As I continue to learn to take 100% responsibility for my life, I needed to discover an answer. Fortunately I did. I learnt there was still parts of my life where I was giving my power away and not committed to living wholeheartedly.

Subsequently, I decided I wanted to create an online learning community for women who are ready to take action and embrace their courage whilst making empowering changes to their life. They would like to be held accountable, educated, supported, inspired and celebrated as they break up with fear (and other draining habits) and take small and empowering steps towards creating changes in their personal or professional life over 90 days so they can continue to commit to creating a life they love. So, the 90-Day Commitment – Courage from the Inside Out was created.

What is Courage?

It is a noun and Google says –

  • “the ability to do something that frightens one; bravery,” and
  • “strength in the face of pain or grief.”
  • The Latin origin of cor means ‘heart’ and middle English denotes the heart, as the seat of feelings.

10 Quotes on Courage

The following 10 quotes relate to power and empowerment yourself –

  1. Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the silent voice at the end of the day that says ‘I will try again tomorrow’.” ~ Mary Anne Radmacher
  2. “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” ~ Walt Disney
  3. “You can choose courage, or you can choose comfort, but you cannot choose both.” ~ Brené Brown
  4. “Courage is more exhilarating than fear and in the long run it is easier. We do not have to become heroes overnight. Just a step at a time, meeting each thing that comes up, seeing it is not as dreadful as it appeared, discovering we have the strength to stare it down.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
  5. “The secret to happiness is freedom… And the secret to freedom is courage.” ~ Thucydides
  6. “The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.” ~ Coco Chanel
  7. “Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
  8. “The best way out is always through.” ~ Robert Frost
  9. “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” ~ E.E. Cummings
  10. “Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.” ~ Steve Jobs

Bingo – this is what I needed to continually do and subsequently wanted to help other women have the courage to do that for themselves – BE the Chief Empowerment Officer (CEO) of their own life (isn’t it funny how what we end up teaching what we most need to learn…) 🙂

Why 90 Days for the 90-Day Commitment: Courage from the Inside Out?

There are a couple of reasons.

Firstly – over the years, the clients I have had the privilege of working with have helped me realise that change takes time. Now don’t get me wrong, there are different types of change, however the changes many of my clients were after (i.e. an increase in self-confidence, starting the habit of self-care, developing an exercise habit, deeper self-awareness and self-compassion) were taking longer than they expected. Due to the length of time and their own expectations, some were starting to give up on themselves (which was hard to see). Fortunately, they had support and chose to continue on.

Secondly – as I continued to research change, I came across research done by the European Journal of Social Psychology. The research conducted by Phillippa Lally and her colleagues from the University College London found that change took from 18-254 days and that the average length of change was 66 days.

Thirdly – I knew from experiencing change within my own life that change takes time. During those times, all I did was take one step and then the next step would be revealed. Little did I know until later (thanks Joseph Campbell – see quote below), that is all I could have taken at that time.

If you can s

Finally – I discovered that the change process was about unlearning as much as remembering. Yes, less is more (not what we have been led to believe). Unlearning or untangling the beliefs, distorted thoughts or conditioning that we had learnt when we were younger and remembering who we truly are. I knew I wanted to create a safe space to continue to change within myself and share that space with other people.

The Adventure of Being YOU

Truly learning to, commit to, embrace and accept yourself is a lifelong adventure. As life continues to change and evolve, we need to remember what we have control over and what we don’t. It takes practice to continue to wholeheartedly accept your gifts and be who you are.

“Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.” ~ Joseph Campbell

Subsequently, I wanted to create a safe and supportive environment where women could come together to create change within their own personal and professional life. I also wanted to be apart of the process, so I could also share my experiences of creating change as well as support a group of changemakers to make the change they were wanting to make.

About all-2

The 90-Day Commitment – Courage from the Inside Out!

A few years ago, it dawned on me. I finally realised I had to change on the inside in order for the outside to change. Yep – I felt like I had tried everything and I felt lost. It was a real lightbulb moment and I start to have a deeper understanding of what Aldous Huxley meant when he said – “I wanted to change the world. But I have found that the only thing one can be sure of changing is oneself.”

Prioritising You is about creating change that feels right for you and embracing your power, so you can experience more bliss in your life!

It is about giving yourself permission to say yes to yourself and following your heart.

Then committing (with flexibility of course) to that change for 90 days.

What could you create in 90 days with the right kind of support?

Yes, it is about YOU deciding what you would like to change and then having the courage to step forward and prioritise YOU throughout the 90 days of change!

The big question is whether you are going to be able to say a hearty yes to your adventure. ~ Joseph Campbell

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.”

~ William H. Murray.
