Poem – I’d Pick more Daisies

This week, I am celebrating an amazing woman in my life – my grandma! It is her birthday and after spending some time with grandma the past couple of days, I thought I would share this poem – I’d Pick more Daisies.

This poem has definitely inspired me in the past to lead a more balanced life and just be myself, so it may do the same to you. In-joy, Jane xx

I’d Pick More Daisies by Nadine Satir

“If I had my life to live over again, I’d try to make more mistakes next time,

I would relax; I would limber up; I would be sillier than
I have been on this trip………..
I know of very few things I would take seriously………
I would take more trips,  I would be crazier………
I would climb more mountains, swim more rivers and
watch more sunsets……….

I would do more walking and looking. I would eat more ice cream and less beans……
I would have more actual troubles and fewer imaginary ones……..
You see, I’m one of those people who live life prophylactically and sensibly hour after hour, day after day.  Oh, I’ve had my moments, and if I had to do it ally over again, I’d try to have nothing else, just moments, one after another…….instead of living so many years ahead each day.  I’ve been one of those people who never go anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a gargle, a raincoat, aspirin and a parachute.

If I had to do it all over again, I would go places, do things and travel lighter than I have…..

If I had to live my life over I would start barefooted earlier in the Spring and stay later in the Autumn…..

I would play hookey more…….
I wouldn’t make such good grades, except by accident.
I would ride on more merry-go-rounds…
I’d pick more daisies.”

Nadine Stair (aged 85)

It’s on Wikipedia that this poem was written by Don Herold, and that it was misattributed to Jorge Luis Borges and to Nadine Strain. Who was actually the writer in your opinion, Jane?

Interesting I didn’t know that.. Don’t think I want to get in to that debate Francisco!

Hi my Great Grandmother wrote this, her name was Nadine Strain, they misspelled her name in the original printing, my Mother Dorthy Hawkins Key was her Granddaughter.

Oh cool – do you have a reference by any chance Marc? That way I might be able to link to it. Thank you 🙂
