Have you seen I AM the Documentary?

I took some time out this afternoon to watch I AM the Documentary. I was lucky enough to be able to get it from the local DVD store (it was in the new release section). In the documentary, Tom Shadyac explores two questions –

  • What is wrong with our world? and
  • What can we do about it?

In the documentary there is discussion around –

  • the stories we tell ourselves and believe without investigating to see if they are true (e.g believing we are separate and subsequently honour and enforce competition and then fashion our world on needing to be significant at someone else’s expense.
  • some people believing wealth and happiness go together, without asking the question – will this really make me happier?
  • what is human kinds basic nature?
  • what we do on an individual level really does have an impact on the whole and we do have the power to change the world (i.e. remember Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa and Desmond Tutu), and
  • the law that nothing in nature takes more than it needs.

Have you seen it? If not, you can read more about the movie on their website by clicking here. If you have seen it, please feel free to leave a comment below! 🙂

Some quotes from the documentary include –

  • “The world is his, who can see through its pretension… See it to be a lie, and you have dealt with its immortal blow.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
  • “Humanity is going to require a substantially new way of thinking if it is to survive” ~ Albert Einstein
  • “Harder still it has proved to rule the dragon Money… A whole generation adopted false principles and went to their graves in the belief they were enriching the country they were impoverishing.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
  • “It was easy to love God in all that was beautiful. The lessons of deeper knowledge, though, instructed me to embrace God in all things.” ~ St. Francis of Assisi
