A Simple Overview of the Phases of the Moon

Over the past few years, I have started to become more and more aware of my energy throughout the phases of the moon. Subsequently, in this post I wanted to share a simple overview of the phases of the moon.

The Phases of the Moon

The phases of the moon are as follows, starting with the new moon –

A Simple Overview of the Phases of the Moon

New Moon –

During a New Moon, the Moon is positioned between the Earth and the Sun. Subsequently, this make the Moon not visible from Earth.

Waxing Cresent –

The next Moon phase is Waxing Cresent. ‘Waxing’ means the illumination of the Moon is growing and ‘Cresent’ indicates that less half of the Moon is illuminated.

First Quarter –

The First Quarter indicates that half of the Moon is illuminated and half of it is in shadow.

Waxing Gibbous –

As identified above, the ‘Waxing’ means the illumination of the moon is growing. ‘Gibbous’ means that more than half of the moon is illuminated.

Full Moon –

Full Moon is where the Sun illuminates the whole of the Moon.

Waning Gibbous –

The next Phase is Waning Gibbous. ‘Waning’ means the illumination is decreasing and as already identified, ‘Gibbous’ means that more than half of the moon is illuminated.

Third Quarter –

The Third Quarter indicates that half of the Moon is illuminated and half of it is in shadow. Within this Phase, we see the opposite side of the Moon that we did in the First Quarter.

Waning Cresent –

Finally, we have Waning Cresent. As you may have noted already, ‘Waning’ means the illumination is decreasing and ‘Cresent’ indicates that less half of the Moon is illuminated.

Over to You…

I hope this post has given you some insight in to the Phases of the Moon. Do you have any questions? If so, leave them below? Over the years, I have been I paying attention to the Phases of the Moon with my planning process as well as my menstrual cycle to notice any patterns.

You may also like to track the Moon to notice any chances within your mind, body and emotions during that time, so you can trust yourself and BE whole-heartedly YOU. Personally, that is one of the reasons I created the slow down and tune in journal, so I can monitor my own energy, emotions and body.
