Clearing by Martha Postlewaite

I am in the midst of a transition, I won’t go in to the details, however it is challenging.

I feel like I am ready to let go and move fully in to the next step, however then something happens and I start doubting myself, fear comes in to the picture and I catch myself retreating. Yes, this is a familiar pattern of mine.

Today after I meditated, I remembered the poem Clearing by Martha Postlewaite. This has given me a little bit of comfort as it reminded me to take the time to create a clearing.

So for the moment, I am doing that and I am waiting patiently. I am also trusting I will know when to take the step and today will be be content in embracing and accepting my true self and where I am.

Clearing by Martha Postlewaite

“Do not try to save
the whole world
or do anything grandiose.
Instead, create
a clearing
in the dense forest
of your life
and wait there
until the song
that is your life
falls into your own cupped hands
and you recognize and greet it.
Only then will you know
how to give yourself
to this world
so worth of rescue.” ~ Martha Postlewaite

Questions for Reflection

  1. What are you doing in your daily life to “create a clearing in the dense forest of your life”?
  2. Are you taking the time to create space so that when the “song” of your life falls into your hands, you’ll recognise it?
