Napoleon Hill’s Keys To Success – 17 Principle’s of Personal Achievement

Andrew Carnegie (one of the richest men of all time) commissioned Napoleon Hill to research, study and interview 500 of the most successful people of their era. The book Napoleon Hill produced remains one of the best-selling books of all time – Think and Grow Rich: The Landmark Bestseller, which is now revised and updated for the 21st Century.

Napoleon Hill broadly outlined his keys to success in Think and Grow Rich (which was written for people who sought the rules that have made other people successful and were willing to stake everything on those rules) however, in his earlier book – Keys to Success: The 17 Principles of Personal Achievement, Hill expanded on the principles in detail.

Napoleon Hill’s Keys To Success – 17 Principle’s of Personal Achievement

Lesson 1: Develop Definiteness of Purpose

Where are you going? Definiteness of purpose is the starting point of all achievement. “Cherish your vision and your dreams as they are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.” ~ Napoleon Hill

Lesson 2: Establish a Mastermind Alliance –

A mastermind alliance is built on two or minds working together in perfect harmony for the attainment of a common objective. In Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill describes a mastermind as “…co-ordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.”

Lesson 3: Assemble an Attractive Personality –

A pleasant personality is a well-rounded and according to Hill, there are 25 characteristics of the personality to work on. Your personality is your greatest asset or liability.

Lesson 4: Use Applied Faith –

You have internal senses (touch, sight, hearing, taste and smell) that put you in touch with your external world, however you also have other senses that put you in touch with another reality. Faith is a state of mind, which develops by conditioning your mind to receive Infinite Intelligence.

Lesson 5: Go the Extra Mile –

The quality of service rendered plus the quantity of the service rendered plus the mental attitude in which it is rendered equals your compensation. Compensation means everything that comes in to your life including joy, money, harmony with others, spiritual enlightenment or anything else worthwhile you seek.

Lesson 6: Create Personal Initiative –

Andrew Carnegie said to Napoleon Hill ~ “There are two types of people who never amount to anything. There are those who never do anything except what they are told to do. And there are those who cannot even do what they are told to do. The people who get ahead do the things that should be done without being told. And they don’t stop there. They go the extra mile and do much more than is expected of them.” (p.77).

Lesson 7: Build a Positive Mental Attitude –

Positive mental attitude is the right mental attitude in all circumstances. Keep your mind on the things you want and off the things you don’t want. “Thoughts mixed with definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a burning desire are powerful things.” ~ Napoleon Hill

Lesson 8: Control Your Enthusiasm –

Enthusiasm is faith in action and comes from the Greek words en, which means in and theos which means God. It comes from within, although it radiates outwardly in the expression of one’s voice and countenance.

Lesson 9: Enforce Self-Discipline –

Self-Discipline means taking possession of your own tongue, emotions, mental attitude, dieting and fasting, politics and Religion and your mind.

Lesson 10: Think Accurately –

Accurate thinking is based on two major fundamentals – inductive reasoning (based on the assumption of unknown facts and hypotheses) and deductive reasoning (based on known facts or what are believed to be facts). “What you think, so you will become.” ~ Napoleon Hill

Lesson 11: Control Your Attention –

Prioritising your time and energy to stay focused on what is most important and beneficial to you. “The way to develop decisiveness is to start right where your are, with the very next question you face.” ~ Napoleon Hill

Lesson 12: Inspire Teamwork –

Similar to mastermind alliance. Teamwork and cooperation is a priceless asset you can acquire in proportion to your giving as well as going the extra mile, personal initiative, attitude, and enthusiasm.

Lesson 13: Learn from Adversity and Defeat –

Individual success can be in exact proportion of the scope of defeat an individual has experienced and mastered. “Every adversity carries with it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.” ~ Napoleon Hill

Lesson 14: Cultivate Creative Vision –

Creative vision is developed by using your imagination and taking the steps daily to create that vision.

Lesson 15: Maintain Sound Health –

Health begins with conscious choices and keeping your energy level up by eating healthy food and participating in physical exercise.

Lesson 16: Budget Your Time and Money –

Taking time everyday to move closer to your purpose and saving money to ensure steady financial growth. Not sure where your time is going? Find out here. “Tell me how you use your time and how you spend your money, and I will tell you where and what you’ll be ten years from now.” ~ Napoleon Hill

Lesson 17: Use Cosmic Habit-force –

Developing and establishing positive habits leads to peace of mind, health and financial security.
