What Do You REALLY Want?

Yes YOU – what do you REALLY want?

Have you ever sat down and identified what you really would like in your life? Yes – REALLY, TRULY want – YOUR hearts deepest calling!

You would think that it would be easy to sit down and identify what our authentic self really wants since we live in a world that encourages us to want so many things all of the time. But are those things really what we want or what we think we want?

What Do You REALLY Want?

This is an area my clients and many people I know struggle with. I wonder why? I hear some people –

  • have been told they are not good enough and then believe these stories they have been told,
  • believe that if they follow their dreams, they won’t have any friends left to enjoy life with,
  • don’t know where to start as they have been supporting other people’s dreams more than their own,
  • believe they are not worthy of their dreams, so subsequently choose not to go after them,
  • struggle with the vulnerability it brings up and don’t trust themselves enough to let go of the fear, and
  • don’t think their needs are important enough and prefer to let other people’s need come before theirs.

It’s interesting because many of us spend more time at work and chasing this thing called success only to find out that when we get there it isn’t what we thought it would be or we weren’t even sure about what we were chasing in the first place!

For me, I believe inside every human being is a purpose only they can fulfill. That’s why I think it is important to know and create what makes your heart sing!

Imagine what the world would be like if we started to slowly take small steps each day to find the courage and re-connect with our hearts true calling? Yes – living a truly aligned life (mind, body, emotions and spirit) and BEing, the person you are meant to be by sharing your gifts that only you can share.

Not sure where to start on this journey? Maybe the following exercise can help develop some insight…

Getting Clear on What You Want – Writing Your Own Eulogy Exercise

A few years ago, I came across the following exercise – it had a profound effect on my life then and still reminds me to make the most of life today (as we never truly know what is around the corner). To start with, just imagine if you were seeing yourself at your own funeral. Imagine –

  • Who are the people at your funeral?
  • What are the people at your funeral saying about you?
  • What are you being remembered for?
  • How did you spend most of your time during your life?
  • Did you live in line with your values?
  • What dreams did you follow?
  • What opportunities did you pursue?
  • Did you have any regrets, if so, what were they? Are there any similarities to the Top 5 Regrets of the Dying?
  • What didn’t you do that you wish you had? Is there a letter you would write or phone call would you would make?

Over to You…

Now that you have identified the answers to these questions, what steps can you take today to make the changes in your life to follow your true calling aligned with your heart and re-wire your brain? Remember – “Take small steps every day and one day you will get there.” ~ Unknown.
